안녕하세요 (Annyeong-haseyo)! Pugwash in Seoul

We have only been able to identify Rotblat in both photographs thus far.

Early days of Pugwash

We are able to identify Rotblat and possibly Dr. Patricia Lindop in the photograph. We are able to hazard a guess that this took place in the 1950s, possibly in the early 1960s as well.

Does anyone have any information on when or where this photograph took place?

If you have any information, please email pugwashphotoarchive@gmail.com and quote (img057) or leave a comment below this point.

Sunny Swiss day at the 16th Pugwash workshop (1988)

This lovely photograph is from the 16th Pugwash workshop on nuclear forces in Geneva, Switzerland that took place between 11 and 13 June 1988. We have been able to identify Rotblat, Calogero, Holdren, Kapaln, Beach, Kelleher, Feld and McNamara in the photograph thus far.

The workshop was reported in our newsletter published in July 1988, noting other participants such as Lord Zuckerman and Colonel Vassilii Grishayev, but we would need more help in identifying the rest of the participants in this photograph.

If you have any information please email us at pugwashphotoarchive@gmail.com (quote img 504) or comment below this post. Thanks!

Peruvian Puzzle

In these photos we have identified F. Calogero, E. Ferrero-Costa, Joseph Rotblat and John Holdren.

These two photos are both dated 3rd of November 1991, which was
the first day of the 3rd Workshop on Non-Military Dimensions of Global Security: Environment and Development in Latin America, held in Lima, Peru.

We have identified Calogero, Rotblat and Holdren in the top picture, but we can not be sure which of the two men second and third from the left is E. Ferrero-Costa. All of these four men attended this workshop. We have not identified the person sitting next to Ferrero-Costa. Do you know who he is?

Pugwash in China

This photo is one of a large number from the 41st Conference held in Beijing, China in September 1991.

We think the man on the left could be Samuel Okoye (Nigeria) and that the man on the right is possibly Emmanuel Erskine (Ghana). Are we right?

28th Conference in Varna, Bulgaria (1978)

  • Who can you identify in this group photo from the 28th Conference in Varna, Bulgaria (1978)?
In addition to Joseph Rotblat, we think we can identify Kaplan, who is third from the left in the front row, and fifth from the left could be Essam Galal.

Joseph Rotblat and Checked Tablecloth

Here we have a picture of a young Joseph Rotblat giving a speech from a table with a checked tablecloth.

 Behind him is a chairman.

Judging from Professor Rotblat's age, we believe this is the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Does anybody have any information on where or when this event took place?

39th Conference: Building Global Security through Cooperation (1989)

img388, a photo by pugwashphotoarchive on Flickr.

We think this is 39th Conference in Cambridge USA, July 1989.

Do you recognise any of these people?

If you have any information please email us at pugwashphotoarchive@gmail.com (quote img388) or comment below this post.

'Mazo' Santander, Spain (1950s)

img052 by pugwashphotoarchive
img052, a photo by pugwashphotoarchive on Flickr.

The copyright on the back of this group shot details Mazo, Santander, Spain.

There are no listed Pugwash events in Spain from this time.

We think this was 1950s, do you know what this event may have been?

We can see Joseph Rotblat second from the right in the front row. Do you recognise anybody else? Could the man to Professor Rotblat's right be the same man as img090 (1960s 'Tropical Paradise')?

If you have any information please email us at pugwashphotoarchive@gmail.com (quote img052) or comment below this post.

Thanks!

Maciej Nalecz (1970s)

img044 by pugwashphotoarchive
img044, a photo by pugwashphotoarchive on Flickr.

The first person on the far right is Maciej Nalecz.

Maciej Nalecz joined Pugwash in 1972. He attended 74 events, including conferences, symposiums and workshops.

Do you recognise anybody else?

Do you know which meeting this was?

We think that the person on the far left of the front row is Ogunlade Davidson. If so could it have been the 31st Conference Arms Limitations: The Search for Peace in a World in Crisis in Banff, Canada, 1981?

If you have any information, please email us at pugwashphotoarchive@gmail.com or leave a comment below this post.

Thanks!

Geneva Workshop (September 1996)

img555 by pugwashphotoarchive
img555, a photo by pugwashphotoarchive on Flickr.

Thanks to modern cameras, we have an exact date: 21st September 1996. It was the Fifth Workshop of the Pugwash Study Group on the Implementation of the Biological and Chemical Weapons Conventions, held in Geneva.

Unfortunately we cannot read the name tags. Obviously we can see Martin Kaplan, Francesco Calogero and Joseph Rotblat in the front row.

Do you recognise anybody else?

If so, please email us at pugwashphotoarchive@gmail.com (and quote img555) or leave a comment below.

Thanks!

Mystery Person (1970s)

img028 by pugwashphotoarchive
img028, a photo by pugwashphotoarchive on Flickr.

We think this photo was take in 1970s.

Besides the UN, do you know these flags?

Notice the solitary figure in the middle. Is this an event in his/her honour? Who could this be? Do you know what occasion this was?

If you have any information, please email us at pugwashphotoarchive@gmail.com and quote (img028), or leave a comment below this post.

Thanks!

Which Conference? (1960s)
